Mountain House Makeover

My sister lives in the gorgeous mountains of Waynesville, NC! (several hours from where I live) Most people would have no problem describing her home as a very charming mountain retreat! Like most people, my sister works full time and could not find the time to decorate her home the way she wanted. She asked me to help her with a "home makeover" and I was happy to oblige! First, I asked her to take photos of every room in the house and email them to me. After studying over the photos, I realized she had GREAT items that I would be able to work with in doing her "home makeover". After developing a plan, I gave her a list of things she must do prior to my arrival.
A few things that I requested she have done:
paint underneath the kitchen bar a vibrant red,
paint around her kitchen window red,
paint her sunroom door green,
paint the interior of her family room door green,
remove all kitchen cabinet doors and prime them, etc...(I provided her the colors to use)
Based on my plans I had for her "home makeover", I got busy shopping for all sorts of drapes, bedding, pictures for the walls, home accessories, etc...

Once all my sister's "to-do" list was complete and my shopping was done it was time to set a date for the weekend "home makeover"! Before heading to my sisters, I grabbed my sidekick and bff, Dianne, to come help me with the "home makeover"! Dianne and I make a great team when it comes to make overs. We are both "work horses" with very creative minds who LOVE doing makeovers!

Let's start with the master bedroom which you can see needed lots of work!

Look at this amazing master retreat! Who would not love sleeping in this cozy bedroom?
The bedding all came from Pottery Barn. The drapes we found a Lowes Home Improvement! (yes, you read this correct! Lowes has some great drapes to pick from!) I found the wicker chest in my sister's basement to be thrown out!

I found this great dresser in her garage! The photo on the wall & most of the accessories all came from Homegoods!

I added the red knobs to her wardrobe

AFTER Bathroom
A colorful shower curtain with a valance really added to the bathroom. Most of the accessories came from HomeGoods.

First the doors were removed. Then all the hardware, pulls and knobs were also removed. We spray painted all the hardware, pulls and knobs a rustic brown color. Then we primed all the cabinets, then painted them a pale yellow, then brushed them with a wood stain then quickly rubbed the stain back off to obtain the look I was going for. Last step was to add a top coat of polyurethane.

All her barstools were stained brown. I painted them a fabulous green color and made seat cushions out of some extra fabric she had.

~~~Home Sweet Home~~~~
I grew up in the beautiful Smokey Mountains of North Carolina in little town called Waynesville, NC! My entire family still lives there so I get to visit many times throughout the year. But my favorite time to visit is when it snows! Needless to say, when I saw the photos that Photographer Ed Kelley had taken of downtown Waynesville after a winter snow storm, I was completely blown away at what he had captured with his camera! Ed is a very talented photographer...I hope you will visit his website or better yet drop in to visit him & his wife, Jo Ridge Kelley, who is also an amazing artist herself at their charming studio in downtown Waynesville. You will find Ed and Jo living close to nature and creating exciting works of art! Note: All the photos I have featured and many more are on Ed's website which explains how to purchase prints!
